Ancillary Relief is the division of finances and property on divorce. The average cost of going to court to sort out ancillary relief is £3,000 - £4,000 per person, even though over 90% of people who go to court agree on the final outcome. On average, 3-4 sessions of mediation will cost £400 - £600 (shared between couple). If you are eligable for public funding (legal aid), family mediation is free. When you visit a solicitor they will explain to you that you will need to speak to a mediator. You will need to do this before funding is granted for your solicitor.
