Costs

Charges are per session and will vary according to individual mediation services.

When you first contact a mediator they will be able to tell you how much they charge. Some mediators will charge on a sliding scale according to each persons ability to pay.

Guide comparison of Court Ancillary Relief:

Ancillary Relief  is the division of finances and property on divorce.  The average cost of going to court to sort out ancillary relief is £3,000 - £4,000 per person, even though over 90% of people who go to court agree on the final outcome.

On average, 3-4 sessions of mediation will cost £400 - £600 (shared between couple).

If you are eligable for public funding (legal aid), family mediation is free.  When you visit a solicitor they will explain to you that you will need to speak to a mediator.  You will need to do this before funding is granted for your solicitor.  If you get public funding for mediation you can also get free assistance from a solicitor who will ensure that any agreement reached is fair to you.
