CostsCharges are per session and will vary according to individual mediation services. When you first contact a mediator they will be able to tell you how much they charge. Some mediators will charge on a sliding scale according to each persons ability to pay.
Ancillary Relief is the division of finances and property on divorce. The average cost of going to court to sort out ancillary relief is £3,000 - £4,000 per person, even though over 90% of people who go to court agree on the final outcome. On average, 3-4 sessions of mediation will cost £400 - £600 (shared between couple). If you are eligable for public funding (legal aid), family mediation is free. When you visit a solicitor they will explain to you that you will need to speak to a mediator. You will need to do this before funding is granted for your solicitor. If you get public funding for mediation you can also get free assistance from a solicitor who will ensure that any agreement reached is fair to you. |
