Details of mediators provided by the help line will be members of one or more of the following organisations:

• The UK College of Family Mediators
• Family Mediators Association
• National Family Mediation
• Resolution
• The Law Society.

Family mediation can be used to sort out a variety of family disputes.  Its most common use to help separating or divorcing couples make their own arrangements for the future.  Mediation provides an informal setting for those involved to talk through their problems and concerns, and gives them control over decision making.  Mediation can offer a wider range of options than is available through the courts.

The mediator will help the parties to explore all possible options and find solutions that both parties agree on.

Mediation is a process that can work for you at any stage of a separation even when court proceedings have started.

In many parts of the country, mediation services have been established for over 20 years, offering an effective alternative to expensive and lengthy court proceedings.
